Brixton Town Centre - neighbourhood improvements
In the last financial year the Town Centre Office has either led on or facilitated a number of projects that were identified as contributing towards improved environmental quality.
These projects were funded from Brixton Area Committee budgets. Some of the works carried out in the last year include:
Greening Brixton
Trees for Cities worked with community groups across all five wards to identify new sites for tree planting. Schools and youth groups were involved in the planting whilst benefiting from a range of educational sessions on the benefits of a green environment.
Lighting Brixton Wards
Lamp columns and lamp heads were upgraded to provide improved visibility in areas identified by community members and the police.
Ruskin Park
New fencing to separate dogs and park users.
Coldharbour Ward
Coldharbour is seen as a priority ward within Lambeth due to the levels of deprivation indicated within the ward. For this reason the Town Centre places particular emphasis on improving services within the ward or providing additional facilities.
Canterbury Gardens Estate
Works were carried out to improve security around the gardens and phase 2, which will provide new ball courts and play facilities, will begin shortly.
St John's Angell Town Victory Nursery
New play surfaces and interior fittings were provided this new nursery facility in Angell Town.
Brixton Markets
A study has been commissioned to look at the physical and economic factors facing the market.
Moorlands Estate Community Gardens
A new environmental and educational facility for the residents of Moorlands.
This year a new community safety facility will open at 236 Coldharbour Lane that will house the Safer Neigbourhood Police Officers for Coldharbour Ward and Herne Hill Ward.
