Youth and play work
Brixton has a vibrant and exciting youth and play service. Lambeth maintains three adventure playgrounds in Brixton; Tulse Hill, Loughborough Park and Max Roach which provide safe and creative play spaces for children aged between 5 and 16 years. The playgrounds offer after-school and weekends provision and are open during the school holidays.
The Marcus Lipton Youth Club in Minet Road provides a range of activities aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle and offers a drop-provision alongside a number of programmed activities including sports such as weights, fitness training, martial arts and football. Junior provision includes football training and homework club and a substantial arts programme. Marcus Lipton is also home to SW9 FM - young people's radio project and Chance to Dance - a project run by the Royal Ballet.
Lambeth also has a team of detached (street) youth workers in Brixton who work with young people who do not want to use building-based provision.
Alongside the Lambeth-maintained youth and play projects, Brixton has a large number of voluntary organisations. One of the roles of the Brixton team is to offer support to these groups. This includes offering advice on policy, good practice and funding sources.
