Improving access to the Town Hall
We are creating a new level access entrance at the front of Lambeth Town Hall to enable staff and visitors who cannot use the steps to access the building. This will ensure we meet our statutory obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act.
The works, which will be completed in the autumn, will create a new entrance by opening up a new doorway to the right of the town hall steps. A large platform lift will then be installed to enable users to get to the ground floor level and enter directly into the reception area.
As the Town Hall is a Grade 2 listed building the works were planned in consultation with the Government Office for London and English Heritage. Full listed building consent and planning approval was sought and given.
While the works are in progress the town hall reception will remain open and every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum and to do all noisy works out of hours.
