Clapham and Stockwell are made up of the wards Clapham Common, Clapham Town, Larkhall, Stockwell and Thornton.
The population of Clapham and Stockwell rose from 59,957 in 1991 to 65,513 in 2001, an increase of 9.3%. This is the largest town centre with 24.6% of the borough's population. Clapham and Stockwell has an area of 546.2 hectares (20.0% of the borough). For the local elections in May 2002, there were 46,484 electors.
Within the town centre is Clapham Common; a vast green space, which attracts visitors from across the world. Concerts, theatre, film shows and competitive sport are among its all-year-round events. It is probably the capital's most used recreational area.
