Lambeth Civic Awards
Every day across the London Borough of Lambeth, people who care about their local community make a positive and selfless contribution to the lives of others. These actions often go unrewarded.
Do you know someone who freely gives of their time, working individually or with others who deserves recognition? Let Lambeth know. The council would like to thank such people on behalf of all of those who live in our area.
This is the ninth year of the council's civic award scheme, which recognises people who help others in a special way.
Civic Awards 2008
The Civic Awards took the form of the 'Town Names' (North Lambeth, Brixton, Clapham and Stockwell, Norwood, and Streatham) and a borough-wide award. Nominations are sought from anybody who believes they know someone who should be recognised.
This year we also introduced the Lord Scarman Award, which was awarded to the person who has contributed to developing, increasing, or promoting equality and inclusion in the areas of race, gender, disability, age, sexuality, religion or belief and achieving or encouraging achievement in challenging circumstances.
Nominations were judged by a panel comprising councillors, the Metropolitan Police, the fire brigade, and independent members of the business and voluntary sectors of the community. The Mayor presented those honoured with a framed certificate at an evening awards ceremony on Wednesday 26 March 2008.
