Prince's ward

Princes ward is bounded by the Thames between Lambeth Bridge and Vauxhall Bridge, along the Albert embankment to Vauxhall station. The A202 Kennington Lane as far as the A23 Kennington Road bounds it to the south.

Kennington underground station is just outside the eastern boundary of A3 Kennington Park Road, which reaches north to and includes the Cottington Close estate. The boundary to the North is Brook Drive, just to the south of the Imperial War museum, and Fitzalan Street and Old Paradise Street.

  • The population of Princes ward rose from 11,130 in 1991 to 11,636, an increase of 4.5%. This is 4.4% of the borough population. Princes has an area of 116.3 hectares (4.3% of the borough). For the local elections in 2002, there were 8,987 electors.
  • Prince's had a large increase in 30-44 age range between the 1991 and 2001 Census, 9.7% compared to 6.5% for the borough.
  • The ward has a high proportion of people aged 60+. 16.3% compared to 12.5% for the borough. However the percentage of these has reduced since the the 1991 Census at a rate higher than the borough as a whole. A high proportion of these residents live alone.
  • Prince's has a high proportion of deprived households and a high proportion of severely deprived households, using the Census deprivation score of Employment, Education, Health and Disability and Housing deprivation.
  • Princes' has the highest proportion of One Person Pensioner households 14.1% of the ward households and 6.8% of all single pensioner households in the borough.
  • Princes has a high proportion of council housing (48.1%) with a large proportion of council tenants from all Black and Mixed Black groups, and Bangladeshis.
