Brixton town centre

Brixton is the strategic and cultural hub of Lambeth, an internationally known neighbourhood famous for its street market, entertainment venues, bars, restaurants and unique ambience. It is made up of the wards of Brixton Hill, Coldharbour, Ferndale, Herne Hill and Tulse Hill.

The population of Brixton rose from 61,155 in 1991 to 64,656 in 2001, an increase of 5.7%. This is 24.3% of the borough population. Brixton has an area of 624.9 hectares (22.9% of the borough). For the local elections in May 2002, there were 48,926 electors.
