Welfare Benefits - Introduction to the Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance

This one-day course aims to introduce the rates of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Attendance Allowance (AA) at which rates they should be awarded clients with physical ill health or mental health needs.

Recommended for

Staff who work in an advisory or supportive role with people who have physical ill health and mental health needs and may be entitled to DLA and incapacity benefits.

Learning outcomes

  • Enable social care staff to identify when their clients are under claiming AA or DLA.
  • Understand differed rates of AA and DLA and which rate should be awarded to their clients.
  • Explore the knock on effects that a successful DLA or AA claim has on other benefits including means tested benefits and how it can effect income for carers.
  • Understand how hospital and other care provision may affect entitlement to these benefits.
