Vote now to help a Lambeth park win £400,000
Two of our parks are in the running for a big cash injection from the Mayor of London - Kennington Park and Spring Gardens are going head-to-head with 45 other parks across London for a grant of £400,000 each. Of the 47 parks, 10 will be selected by public vote to receive the money to make them more attractive and improve security.
If Kennington Park or Spring Gardens receive enough votes to win the £400,000 cash boost we would be able to give them a significant makeover.
So if you love Lambeth's parks and open spaces, register your vote online today at london.gov.uk website or by postal vote. See the website for details. Voting closes on Friday 30 January 2009.
Vote for Kennington Park
The grant would be used by the council to help make Kennington Park more welcoming, by improving views through the park, installing interpretation boards, upgrading footpaths, improving play areas, creating new meadows, improving hedgerows and encouraging wildlife as well as restoring the walled Old English Garden.

Vote for Spring Gardens
Spring Gardens is an important open space in a very busy area. A grant could make it more welcoming by re-shaping some of the landscape so it feels safer with clearer views, improving footpaths and accessibility; new horticultural plantings, wildflower meadows and native hedgerows. The grant would also create better links with Vauxhall City Farm, next door.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "I urge you to use your vote so the most deserving parks in the capital benefit from 10 hefty prizes. This investment will make the capital's open spaces cleaner, safer, greener and more enjoyable places for Londoners to use. Parks provide a free place for staff and families to enjoy time out and often simple improvements such as better play areas and improved lighting can make a real difference in making parks much more attractive and safer to use."
