Child to conduct Lambeth Orchestra
On Saturday 5th November, children from schools all across Lambeth will be filling the hallowed hall of St Peter’s Parish Church in Vauxhall to watch a spectacular performance of well-known music performed by the Lambeth Orchestra.
The concert which is free for all, consists of film scores by John Williams, including music from ET, Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and classical repertoire by Rossini, Holst and Tchaikovsky (excerpts from the Nutcracker ballet).
A child will be invited to conduct the orchestra for a short time, proving that classical music is not just for the grown-ups.
Lambeth Council provides annual funding to the Lambeth orchestra to allow public access to the orchestra via open rehearsals and affordable public performances and provides opportunities for children and young people to attend rehearsals and meet players.
The council also supports an educational programme for young people in Lambeth - to participate in and see performances, in addition to encouraging the development of collaborative performances and new works.
