Lambeth Hair, Fashion and Beauty Event
On the weekend of the 4 November 2006, the Lambeth Hair, Fashion and Beauty (LHFB) provided all the fireworks.
The weekend was a highly successful culmination of an extensive programme of events held across Lambeth including apprenticeship training in local salons, talks in schools, business networking events and a fashion academy. All of which and more can be found at www.lhfb.co.uk
On Saturday 4 November a guest list only fashion show was held at Acres on Acre Lane, Brixton to showcase some of the most talented designers and stylists in Lambeth. Models, trained at the fashion academy run in October, graced the catwalk displaying the latest fashion wear and hair styles. The catwalk parade was ably supported by live music, a local quiz and awards to the apprentices who had worked to deliver the events on 4 and 5 November.
Following Saturday's pre-event fashion show, the main exhibition (held on Sunday 5 November at Lambeth Town Hall between 11am and 6pm) went down a storm with over 1000 people visiting throughout the day. Exhibitors in the hair, fashion and beauty industry in Lambeth – including handmade fashion wear, jewellery, skin products, hair stylists – were complemented by demonstrations on the main stage, a fashion show, competitions and awards.
Visitors also flocked to the business zone to access support for their ideas for setting up a business or receive support if they were already in business. In the natural zone visitors could enjoyed demonstrations in massage, yoga and other holistic therapies.
The LHFB project was delivered by a group of market leading businesses currently at the forefront of the hair, fashion and beauty industry and public sector agencies committed to supporting this industrys' growth. The project recognises the potential to capitalise on the growth of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) businesses across London and the opportunities that arise from a community that has a significant and increasing disposable income. The deliberate focus on young people and businesses will ensure that new talent is given a chance and businesses are supported to network and up-skill in critical areas.
