Lambeth's Adults' and Community Services has retained its two stars and been judged as good by the Commission for Social Care Inspection. The Commission further judged that the department has 'promising capacity for improvement'.

In the report out today the Commission highlighted that older people in Lambeth are more likely to live independently and to face shorter waits in hospital before returning home than in many other London boroughs. It also praises the services for vulnerable and disabled adults in the borough and singled out the groundbreaking 'In Control' scheme which gives people with learning disabilities and their families the chance to have more control and choice in their own care.

Executive Director of Adults' and Community Services Jo Cleary praised all the council's staff for their hard work and commitment. "Sustaining our two stars is down to all our staff. And we couldn't do it without our partners in the voluntary and independent sectors and the NHS."

She continued: "The challenge now is to build on our strengths and be even more ambitious in our plans to provide more personalised services to our residents. The first step is our new Carers Strategy. We want to improve support to carers and will be consulting with them from December so that they can tell us what is important for them."
