Lambeth Music Service plays for Schools' Minister
Fifty-one young musicians from Lambeth travelled to Leeds to present the Musitrax strategy to the Schools Minister, Lord Adonis at the national conference of Heads of Music Services.
St Luke’s CE Primary, Corpus Christi Catholic Primary and Lilian Baylis Technology School gave a brilliant performance of moving, singing and instrumental playing, from London's Burning to Valerie, and ended in a joint performance of a verse of Waterloo Sunset.
Each school brought pupils from two year-groups and showed how musical skills are built up over the years, enabling pupils to achieve success with the instrument or musical endeavour of their choice.
Lambeth Music Service was one of two chosen from all 150 music services country wide, to demonstrate 'best practice' and show how the current music education initiatives are combined into an integrated music strategy for the borough.
The delegates were full of praise for the exemplary behaviour and professional approach of the young people on stage.
"You could tell by the response of the delegates that everyone warmly enjoyed the young people’s music making" said John Witchell, Chief Executive of the Federation of Music Services.
