£3.5million lottery windfall for Brockwell Park
Brockwell Park will be restored to its former grandeur after securing a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund's (BIG).
The Lottery millions will help preserve and enhance the park's historic landscaping and buildings for future generations, breathing new life into the much-loved green space.
The £3.5 lottery funding is part of an overall investment of £5.5 million which has seen the superb restoration of the Lido.
Brockwell Park opened in 1892. It is home to ornamental ponds, formal flower-beds, a walled 'old English' herbaceous flower garden, 19th-century clock tower and Brockwell Hall - a Grade II* listed historic mansion dating from 1811. The park also has a wide range of sports and recreational facilities, including Brockwell Lido, which reopened in 2007 following £500,000 of HLF funding.
The investment will be used to upgrade footpaths, entrances, furniture and signage as well as refurbishing the Temple building, toilets and rooms to be used by community organisations. In addition, new members of staff will be taken on to manage a programme of activities which will encourage more local people to get involved with and enjoy their park.
The Brockwell Park improvement project is just one of a range of schemes designed to make Lambeth’s parks some of the most popular and best kept in London.
This award will enhance the value of the park and ensure that it can also be enjoyed by generations to come.
