Lambeth Council will collect residents’ Christmas trees from their front doors for the first time this year. The new free service will run from January 8-23 and is being set up as part of the council’s aim of making recycling easier than ever.

It is 100 years since the first black Councillor was elected in London, and in commemoration of this, Lambeth Council is launching the first in a series of special events encouraging black and minority ethnic people – particularly those in their teens - to become involved in public life.

Christmas has come early for one Lambeth octogenarian, courtesy of Lambeth Council and Lady Luck. Mrs Karen Woodley, 85, from Streatham Hill, was a lucky prize-winner in a competition run by Lambeth Council’s Home Improvement Agency.
