Designs on Brixton Market
Creativity in Lambeth knows no bounds, as winners of the latest art competition in the borough reveal.
Children in the borough have designed a new logo for Brixton market, which will appear on Cleanaways dustcarts, street cleaning equipment and uniforms. The designs will also be incorporated onto signage throughout the market in due course.
The winning design carries the strapline “I love Brixton Market”. It is adorned with apples, bananas and fish and a dustcart in the centre, and encased by three arrows that represent recycling and sustainability.
Four winners were chosen and elements of each of their designs were amalgamated to form the final logo. The winners reflected the ethos of Brixton Market and a cleaner, greener, more tidy Brixton market. Each prize winners received £100 for their endeavours.
Executive Director of Environment and Culture, Robert Overall said: "I was incredibly impressed by the level of creativity displayed by the young people. They really grasped the task of designing a logo for what is one of the most colourful and vibrant street markets in London.“
“The winning entry is now on proud display in the reception area of the Environment and Culture head office."
The competition was conducted by Brixton Town Centre office with artist Daniel Shearon, through a series of art workshops aimed at 10-19 year olds, which ran at a number of different adventure playgrounds and youth inclusion programmes during March.
