Good Improvement Rate continues in Primary Schools
Lambeth schools continue to improve at a fast rate, the Key Stage 2 Performance Tables published by the DfES on Thursday 7 December 2006 show.
For the borough overall, the level 4 and above rating for English has improved from 76% last year to 78% in 2006 - this compares favourably with the national result which has remained the same. The level 4 and above rating for maths has improved from 68% in 2005 to 70%, with science also up by 1% to 83% this year.
The overall improvement rate was significant in a number of schools. The schools showing the highest increases across all three subjects were: Christ Church (Brixton); St Leonard’s; St Andrew’s CofE; Walnut Tree Walk; Jessop; Crown Lane; Fenstanton; Kingswood; St Mary’s; and Vauxhall. These are the top 10 improved schools between 2005 and 2006 in the authority.
The league tables also show that many Lambeth schools are in the top nationally for ‘value added’ – the progress a student makes while at the school, whatever baseline they start from.
Nine schools - Stockwell, Kingswood, Ashmole, Henry Cavendish, Reay, Macaulay, St Helen’s, St Andrew’s CofE and Durand – stand out as having particularly high ‘value added’ scores. These schools are in the top 5 per cent of schools nationally terms of ‘value added’.
"Once again the KS2 results show steady and sustained improvement in reading, writing and maths and a number of schools have show significant increases in their results. Thanks go to teachers, heads, governors and the schools advisory team for their excellent work", said Councillor Sally Prentice, Lambeth cabinet member for the Children and Young People’s Service.
