Oval ward next in line for big clean-up

12 December 2006

Council staff will be out in force in Oval ward on Friday 15 December, as Operation Freshview, the council’s big clean-up drive, comes to the area.

Oval is the fourth area to benefit from the blitz, which sees staff from the council, police, fire brigade and other partners out in force in a day of concerted action to make improvements to the environment and improve community safety.

The teams will be blasting away graffiti, cutting back hedges, painting tired street furniture, talking to residents about their concerns and much more.

Officers from the council and police will be on hand at St Mark’s Church opposite Oval tube throughout the day to discuss local concerns and issues with residents face to face. A special recycling bus will be present with activities for children, freebies for residents and leaflets on how we can all recycle more.

“This is a great opportunity for people to come down and tell council and police about their concerns and contribute ideas on how to improve their neighbourhood,” said Cllr Lib Peck, Cabinet Member for Environment and Culture on Lambeth Council.

“Freshview has been extremely successful in the other areas and is making real improvements as it rolls across the borough. It is about making a lasting difference to some of the more deprived areas of the borough.”
