Lambeth helps residents to have a 'Green Christmas' with new tree recycling service
Lambeth Council will collect residents’ Christmas trees from their front doors for the first time this year.
The new free service will run from January 8-23 and is being set up as part of the council’s aim of making recycling easier than ever.
Residents who have a real Christmas tree can leave it at the front of their property on the same day as their recycling is collected either the week beginning the 8th or the 15th January, and the council will take it away and recycle it for free. Residents should make sure the tree is at the front of their property before 6am on the day of collection, and that all decorations have been removed.
Cllr Lib Peck, Cabinet member for environment and culture on Lambeth Council, said:
“We create a lot more waste during the Christmas period, but with space rapidly running out in landfill sites it’s really important we recycle what we can. Rather than throwing things away it’s important we all recycle things like wrapping paper, Christmas cards, and all those plastic and glass bottles and cans from Christmas parties.”
“Lambeth Council is making it easier than ever for people to recycle and our new free door-to-door Christmas tree recycling service is part of this service.”
The council will also be accepting Christmas trees at four sites between January 8 – 19.
These are:
- Clapham Common, Windmill Drive
- Kennington Park, Kennington Park Road
- Streatham Common, Streatham Common High Road
- Vale Street Reuse and Recycling Centre, Vale Street
