Free short term parking in Acre Lane is a boost for business
Lambeth Council has given a boost to businesses on Acre Lane in Brixton by installing free short term parking bays in the area.
The council has installed the bays after feedback from shop owners that they needed greater support to attract customers to shop along the parade.
There is now a balance of pay and display bays, free short term parking, and residents and businesses bays along Acre Lane. The four free short term bays provide space for around 14 vehicles.
The council actively promotes public transport, cycling and walking as an alternative to using the car. But it also believes in supporting small businesses where appropriate by providing local parking spaces.
Cllr Nigel Haselden, Deputy cabinet member for transport and parking on Lambeth Council, said: "While the council strongly promotes walking, cycling and public transport, we recognise the need to support the local economy and give a hand to small businesses by providing the right balance of parking provision.
"These new bays are part of a continual programme to ensure parking provision is sympathetic to local businesses, and is supported by an enforcement regime that is firm but fair and proportionate."
