A summer of fun for Lambeth's young people

27 June 2008

From Lambeth's own World Cup to a hip hop dancing contest - summer holiday activities for young people are about to kick off.

Boys and girls of all abilities can show off their footie skills on pitches across the borough in the Summer World Cup as part of Lambeth Council's holiday activities for 0 to 19-year-olds.

There is also a hip hop dance contest for girls in the Royal Festival Hall Ballroom and dozens of play schemes, offering everything from jewellery workshops to swimming lessons.

Cllr Paul McGlone, Lambeth’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: "There is an amazing range of activities in Lambeth’s libraries, youth clubs and sports centres geared towards stamping out boredom in the school summer holidays and we hope more young people than ever will want to get involved."

This year, the council has also launched its first summer university for 11 to 19-year-olds, offering a full range of creative and vocational courses.

Details of all the events, including listings ranging from sports camps and youth clubs to libraries and Children’s Centres are available at: www.lambethhap.org.uk and www.lambethsummeruni.org.uk. For more information call the Families' Information Service on 0845 601 5317.
