Online payments - frequently asked questions

Which services accept online payments?

Lambeth currently accepts online payments for:

  • parking penalty charge notices
  • council tax
  • business rates
  • housing rents
  • day to day service charges
  • housing benefit overpayments
  • commercial waste (trade waste)
  • house purchase
  • sundry debt (old invoices)
  • invoice payment (residential and home care).

In all cases you will need your account details and a credit or debit card to make a payment. The account number will be on the bill or invoice you have received from Lambeth. Take care to enter this number correctly or your payment may be rejected or made to the wrong account.

To pay for any of these services online go to the payments page.

Are your PC and Internet Browser compatible?

To use our online payments service your browser must support 128-bit encryption strength. If your browser does not support this level of encryption technology, you will not be able to pay for services online.

The procedure for checking this setting varies according to the software you have installed but for most people, you can show the level of encryption supported by clicking 'Help' then 'About' on your browser toolbar, then checking the 'Cipher Strength' (Internet Explorer) or 'Version Support' (Netscape) values. This screen normally provides a link to download any software you may require.

What security levels does Lambeth have for online payments?

All payments to Lambeth are encrypted using 128-bit encryption to ensure that your payment information can't be intercepted on the internet. Lambeth does not store your payment details so there is no risk of this data being accessed by third parties after the payment has concluded.

The actual payments are handled by Lambeth's payment partners who have been selected for their experience in securely handling online payments. For Parking Penalty Charge Notices, Cobalt Telephone Technologies Ltd and for all other payments it is Capita.

When you are entering your payment information, ensure that your browser shows a "padlock" icon indicating that the transaction is being encrypted using a digital certificate. If you double-click the padlock, the details of the website you are using should be shown. If you are paying a Parking Penalty Charge Notice, the details of the certificate should show that you are using the I-CPS website. Otherwise, the certificate should show that the website is for the Capita e-payment service.
