Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch is about being part of a community team however large or small, whose members work to protect each other from crime and anti-social behaviour. Through Neighbourhood Watch residents feel more secure, knowing they are not alone and that people are looking out for each other.
Residents run each watch independently, with support from the police and council. You need to appoint a coordinator who is willing to run the watch voluntarily with support from other members. Their role is to be the link with the police and council, circulating any information that may be relevant to watch members and passing back any information around crime and anti-social behaviour.
The following is regularly sent to watch coordinators:
- crime prevention articles
- fortnightly crime statistics
- London wide Neighborhood Watch newsletter.
It's not just about reducing crime and the fear of crime but about creating a community spirit and better quality of life. Anyone can join and play a part by watching out for suspicious or unusual activity, reporting it to the police and letting your coordinator know so that they can inform other members.
If you suspect there is an immediate threat to people or property phone 999.
Report all other crime incidents to the police using:
- the non-emergency number 0300 123 1212
- Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 anonymously
- anti-social behaviour reporting line 020 7926 4000.
