Don't let your night out turn into a nightmare

Nobody wants a night out to turn into a nightmare and we are working with our Safer Lambeth partners, Lambeth Police and NHS Lambeth to ensure people have a fun but safe time.

There are a number of practical steps you can take to avoid putting yourself in a dangerous situation or to avoid becoming a victim of crime:

  • The night might only just be beginning but plan how you are getting home. Never use an unlicensed cab. Use Transport for London's Cabwise service by texting 'HOME' to 60835 to receive the number of three licensed cab companies in your area.
  • Know your limits. Don't be reckless when it comes to drinking. Don't mix drinks, or drink too quickly.
  • Look after your friends, especially if they have had a lot to drink.
  • Keep some money separate from your wallet/purse so that you won't be tempted to spend it and can use it to get home.
  • Don't leave bags over the back of your chair and keep wallets and purses close to your body to make it more difficult for pickpockets.
  • In case you get separated from your friends, arrange a time and place to meet at the end of the night.
  • If you walk home alone stick to well-lit areas and avoid using a mobile phone as you walk as it makes you less aware of your surroundings.
