Stockwell has a variety of cafes, bars and other businesses owned by Portuguese members of the community. Over time, the area has become known locally as 'Little Portugal'.

New Communities and Neighbourhoods team

From 5 September, a new Communities and Neighbourhoods (North) team will work in Stockwell to engage with local residents, voluntary organisations and community groups in support of the council’s regeneration and neighbourhood programmes, as well as broader neighbourhood working issues. The Communities and Neighbourhoods Manager for Stockwell is Pal Luthra.

Stockwell Partnership

The Stockwell Partnership, a community-driven initiative, was established in April 1996. The membership comprises local tenants and residents, voluntary groups and public sector partners.
The outcome of their work is a regeneration programme to enhance the environment and carry out improvements within the area. The partnership may be contacted on 020 7735 5051.

National Museum of Type and Communication

The area boasts the most significant typographic collection in the world at the National Museum of Type and Communication, 100 Hackford Road. This living museum was founded in 1991 and houses examples of the art and craft of typography from the last 500 years.
