The Brixton Town Centre Initiative - Working together for a better Brixton
What is the Brixton Town Centre Initiative?
The Brixton Town Centre Initiative is about working together for a better Brixton. It is a partnership that includes the police and the council, and work is co-ordinated by a new Brixton Town Centre Director. The initiative takes a flexible approach to delivering services at a local level so that we can respond to local needs and issues.
The Brixton Town Centre Initiative builds on the work of Brixton Sentinel and is one of three models for neighbourhood working being evaluated by Lambeth First, the borough's strategic partnership.
Brixton Town Centre Director
Steph Butcher, Brixton Town Centre Director, was named Champion of the Year at the Association of Town Centre Managers annual awards on 17 June 2010.
Steph's award is recognition of the transformation she has brought about in Brixton. Her newly created post provides support for local businesses and helps to provide more training and job opportunities for residents. Steph leads a team of council and police officers to focus on Brixton's crime and grime, as well as marketing the great things that make Brixton unique to boost the area as a successful commercial town centre.
