Employment and Support Allowance is a new benefit paid by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) from October 27 2008 if a person's ability to work is limited by health or disability. It replaces both Incapacity Benefit and Income Support paid on the grounds of incapacity.
Lambeth Council has a responsibility to ensure that benefit payments are made only to those who are entitled to receive them.

Housing benefit is available to people on low incomes to help pay their rent, either to the council or a private landlord. People who are lodgers or live in hostels can also claim.
