Neighbourhood clubs for older people

Gateway neighbourhood clubNeighbourhood clubs for older people are now available across the borough. These local services, called the Gateway network, are delivered by older people for older people, including the creation of 5200 luncheon club places.


The clubs aim to help the increasing number of older people who are socially isolated and provide a helping hand in this difficult financial time.

Gateway neighbourhood clubIf you are over 55 and live in the borough these clubs can offer you a hot meal, the opportunity to make friends, take part in activities, and get advice and support on everything from borrowing a library book to befriending or claiming benefits.

Basaira

Basaira Elderly Centre is a registered charity for elderly members living in Lambeth. They also have a few members from surrounding boroughs.

The organisation offers help, advice, drop-in facility to members and provides keep-fit classes separately for men and women and escorts are permitted to participate for the benefit of those who need help. 

Norwood Pensioners' Group

The Norwood Pensioners' Group was established over five years ago in response to a need for local services for older people in the Norwood area.

University of the Third Age (U3A) Norwood

The University of the Third Age (U3A, Norwood is a self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operative for older people who are no longer in full time work.

Vassall Elderly Project

The Vassall Elderly project was started in August 2001 in response to the lack of provision for elderly people in the Vassall Ward, especially those from black and minority ethnic communities.

Stockwell Good Neighbours

Stockwell Good Neighbours is a befriending organisation which meets on a Monday at Oval House Theatre. It aims to prevent loneliness and isolation for elders in the Stockwell and Oval area. It is primarily for African Caribbean elders but not exclusively. A varied stimulating programme aimed at keeping bodies, minds and souls active is provided.

Streatham Darby and Joan Club

The Streatham Darby and Joan Club provides a wide range of activities and services for diverse groups of older people in conjunction with its partners: Lambeth Asian Centre, Make A Difference Black Afro-Caribbean Group, Age UK Lambeth, and Lambeth Council.

Myatt's Fields Park Older People's Lunch Club

Providing lunch for retired and elderly local residents, the club runs on Fridays from 12 to 2pm at Myatt’s Fields Park Depot, at the southern end of park on Cormont Road. Healthy and fresh food is cooked by our food manager and is free to all participants, and in friendly and attractive surroundings.
