People First Expos
Our People First Expos are your opportunity to come together and chat with people from local groups and organisations or council departments. You can ask questions and get answers about issues that affect daily life.
Local councillors will be on hand talk through local issues and also to listen to your views. This is your chance to have a say about what is going on in your local community and influence the decisions of councillors, Lambeth Council officers and partners.
Vauxhall Expo
The changing face of Vauxhall will be the focus of the next Lambeth Expo being held on Saturday 11 September in Vauxhall’s Spring Gardens, Tyers Street, SE11 5HL.
The Expo runs from noon until 5pm and features a range of fun activities. These include a dog show with free micro chipping, mask making competitions, sports displays and coaching, jazz and drama performances, children’s games, clown and magic show, food, bar and guided heritage walks.
Three grants for local organisations of £500 each (including an anonymous donation from a local resident) are to be decided by public vote on the day. Vauxhall City Farm and Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre (The Spring) Open Days form part of the programme.
As the Vauxhall area is set for large scale redevelopment -including proposals for high rise blocks - the Expo provides a chance for local people to have their say on how they would like the area to develop and how money from developers should be spent.
To help appreciate the scale of the developments proposed, a large scale electronic model of the Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea area will be on display at St Peters. There will be directions from Spring Gardens.
Local organisations and charities will also be opening stalls providing information on activities and services in the area and letting people know how to get involved in their community.
For more information about the event, contact Frances Forrest - KOV Forum Support Worker on 07506 072 307 or visit www.kovforum.org.uk.
Norwood Expo
Children in Norwood and surrounding areas are soon to benefit from a dedicated children’s water play area in Norwood Park. The new facility is being launched on Saturday 24 July between 11am and 4pm. The water play area will provide children with a natural play space in a new state-of-the-art landscaped area. The design includes interactive sand and water structures, rocks and trees giving children a safe place to enjoy active play as well as a place to simply relax.
The new facility is a true collaboration between the local community, Friends of Norwood Park and Lambeth Council. Last year residents were invited to decide how £75,000 would be spent in their neighbourhood and they voted for the wet play area in Norwood Park. The initiative was part funded by Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) who worked hard to ensure the needs of disabled children were also taken into account in the design. Additional funding was provided through the Play Pathfinder programme.
The launch of the new facility coincides with this year's Norwood Expo which is being delivered by the Norwood Forum. The aim for the day will be to bring people together from the Norwood area for a fun day out and to promote the wealth of services and activities that are available locally. Various council departments will attend including Children and Young Peoples' Services, Norwood Library and the Recycling Team. There will be a range of local community groups taking part including the Norwood Wildlife Team, Emmaus and Lambeth Voluntary Action Council. The expo is also your chance to have your say on what you think is important, including future plans for Norwood Park and to find out more about plans to create a 'co-operative council' - which will see the council, residents and community groups working together to shape and deliver services.
In addition to a wide range of stalls, there will be added attractions such as a bouncy castle, face painting and drumming, dance, craft and drama workshops which are all FREE! Refreshments for the event will be provided by The Park pub which is situated opposite the park plus several other local caterers.
Norwood Park is located on Salters Hill, SE19. It is within easy reach of West Norwood and Gipsy Hill mainline stations and is well served by local buses including the numbers 2, 417, 450, 322 and 432.
