Stockwell Good Neighbours

Stockwell Good Neighbours is a registered charity for older people who live in the Lambeth area. There are currently 60 members, and most are of West Indian origin.

The group has been operating since 1978 and aims to provide a wide range of social activities and projects to benefit people's health and well-being and prevent social isolation.

There is a weekly exercise session for members, regular quizzes and games, including dominoes, bingo and raffles. They also have occasional projects such as IT training, reminiscence work and arts and crafts. The group has developed its own choir, which performs at events in the local community.

There are regular outings to the theatre and places of historical interest, as well as day trips to the coast. There are also opportunities for advice and support such as form-filling, and sign-posting to appropriate services.

Stockwell Good Neighbours host talks by health and social care professionals, emergency and support services, together with regular visits from the statutory services and voluntary and community groups.

Membership is currently full and a waiting list is in operation.  However, you are more than welcome to join the group's choir plus outings and special projects such as Black History month celebrations and Christmas events.

Stockwell Good Neighbours is scoping the possibilities for expansion and increasing membership.
