Crime prevention
Crime in Lambeth is falling. Increased policing and action by the council, voluntary agencies and local communities are making a real difference. There is now a clear and sustained downward trend in street crime, burglaries, drug offences and motor vehicle crimes.
But crime remains high. The intensity of action and effort needs to be sustained.
The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, defines anti-social behaviour as acting in an anti-social manner that caused or was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household as the complainant.
CCTV is just one of the tools and measures that Lambeth and our partners are using to tackle crime and grime in the borough. Crime reduction and community safety activities are also delivered through partnership working alongside CCTV.
Making Lambeth a safer place to live, work and visit is central to our Community Safety Strategy 2005-2008.
Reducing crime and the fear of crime transforms the quality of life for our residents.
A controlled drinking zone (CDZ) is a designated public area in which police have powers to confiscate alcohol or require a person to stop drinking. However a CDZ is not a ban and does not make drinking alcohol in public an offence.
