Burial and Cremation Records
We have records of burials and cremations in the borough. Searches can be made for all burials, buried human remains or buried cremated human remains.
Records of burials and cremations date from:
- Lambeth Cemetery - 1854
- Lambeth Crematorium - 1958
- Norwood Cemetery - 1837
- Norwood Crematorium - 1915
- Streatham Cemetery - 1893
The Burial Registers are held at their respective cemetery office, with the exception of Streatham Cemetery whose records are held at Lambeth Cemetery Office.
Unfortunately current legislation prevents the individual access by members of the general public to our Cremation Records, however we are able to confirm or otherwise if a person has been cremated at either of our crematoria (West Norwood or Lambeth).
Making a search
Personal searches of the Burial Registers can be made by members of the public during normal office hours and by prior appointment.
Where a personal visit is not possible, the cemetery staff can carry out the search for you, though your requirements need to be submitted in writing to the relevant office and should state the full name of the deceased and year of their death.
This service will cost £32 and payment can be made via cheque or postal order, made payable to ‘London Borough of Lambeth’.
Alternatively you can contact or visit Lambeth Archives. Lambeth Archives is the record office and local history library for the London Borough of Lambeth, with access being free of charge and open to all.
A paid search service is offered for people who are unable to visit them in person.
Visit the Archives page for more information.
