Statutory Funerals

We are obliged to make funeral arrangements for deceased persons when no other satisfactory means are available.

Our service

We deal with the sensitive issue of arranging for the burial or cremation of those who die within the borough where satisfactory arrangements would not otherwise be made. This is done in keeping with the deceased cultural and/or religious wishes if they are known.

We work closely with the coroner, social services residential care, the police and the Government Treasury.

We are empowered to recover costs from any estate of a deceased person. Any remaining funds then passes to the Treasury, however, often the full costs need to be met by the Council.
