Disability Equality Scheme

Every council has a duty to promote disability equality. This means that Lambeth has to take steps to:

  • Promote equality of opportunity between disabled and non-disabled people
  • Eliminate discrimination which is unlawful under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
  • Eliminate disability related harassment
  • Promote positive attitudes towards disabled people
  • Encourage participation of disabled people in public life
  • Take steps to meet disabled people’s needs, even if this requires more favourable treatment.

We also have to have publish a Disability Equality Scheme which is designed to help us achieve these aims. The scheme sets out actions we will take to promote disability equality and highlights the evidence which is available around disability issues. It explains how the council has involved and will continue to involve disabled people in the development of scheme, and in monitoring and reviewing it.

You can view or download the scheme using the links below. Audio versions of the full scheme and the Easy Read summary are available on request (unfortunately we are currently unable to make them available for download).

To request a copy of the scheme in another format or the audio version, please contact Kemi Shabiolegbe, Resourcing and Scheduling Manager, 020 7926 2682 kshabiolegbe@lambeth.gov.uk.
