Equalities and diversity

Photo of familyThe Equalities and Diversity Unit provides strategic support to members, the Chief Executive and Strategic Leadership Board (SLB) in:

  • setting equalities values and priorities
  • delivering policies, plans and guidance on tackling inequality and making the most of diversity
  • offering expert advice on the equalities aspect of service-planning, supporting vulnerable people and managing staff.

The Head of Equalities and Diversity takes the strategic lead on equalities across the council, and the Unit supports all departments in delivering on their equalities agenda.

Gender Equality Scheme

Our Gender Equality Scheme sets out how we will meet our legal duty to eliminate unlawful sex discrimination and harassment, and promote equality of opportunity between men and women.

Disability Equality Scheme

Our Disability Equality Scheme explains what the council will do in the next three years to make life better for disabled people in the borough, and for disabled council staff.

Race Equality Scheme

This Race Equality Scheme sets out how we intend to meet our obligations in relation to race equality.

It identifies the council's functions and policies that are relevant to the performance of the general and specific duties of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. It also defines the aims and objectives that all departments across the council have identified in relation to race equality and the priorities that have been agreed for race equality work over the next three years.
