Welcome to Lambeth 1 Call, the direct line to home repairs and adaptations for older people.
Older people should be able to live safely and comfortably in their homes and have easy access to repairs and adaptations that can help them maintain their independence.
Lambeth 1 Call has been established so that older people can quickly and easily receive advice and information about the service that is most able to meet their home repair or adaptation needs.
What is Lambeth 1 Call?
Lambeth 1 Call is a dedicated telephone service, answered by specially trained Lambeth Service centre staff, to provide older people with quick and easy access to home repair and adaptations services.
Am I eligible to use Lambeth 1 Call?
Lambeth 1 Call is aimed at people over 55 years of age in any type of housing, eg renting from the council, housing association or privately or homeowners. It is also open to people who live in sheltered housing.
What help can Lambeth 1 Call provide?
Lambeth 1 Call can help if you are a council tenant and you need a repair to your council property.
Lambeth 1 Call can also help if:
- You live in any type of housing and you need help from a handyperson with small jobs around the home such as mending a dripping tap, hanging curtains, fixing shelves or moving furniture.
- Your home needs adapting to help you live more independently in it, eg you have mobility problems and cannot use the bath or can no longer climb the stairs.
In some circumstances it can also help people who have major repairs such as to the roof or central heating.
How does it work?
When you telephone Lambeth 1 Call on 020 7926 1400, a specially trained officer will listen to the type of home repair or adaptation problem you have. They will take your details and pass them on to the most appropriate service.
The service provider will then either arrange to carry out the repair or contact you for more information.

Is there a charge for using Lambeth 1 Call?
The only charge for contacting Lambeth 1 Call is the cost of the telephone call. If you need help from Age Concern's Handyperson Service you will be asked to pay only for any materials or fittings that are required, labour is free. Grants or loans may be available to help you pay for adaptations you may need to your home. The Home Improvement Agency will be able to tell you what help is currently available.
What if I'm not eligible for help from Lambeth 1 Call?
If you're not eligible for help or want to arrange your own repairs you may want to use Trustmark.
