Becoming an approved marriage venue

In order to become an approved marriage venue (approved premises) the building concerned must be licensed.

The application procedure is very straightforward and a pre-inspection is available to all prospective clients.

Please see our marriage and civil partnership venue licensing page for further details.

Requirements

A marriage venue must be a permanent structure comprising of at least one room and must provide a 'seemly and dignified' place where civil marriages may be solemnised.

The premises must also have no recent or continuing connection with any religion or religious practice that would be incompatible with its use as a marriage venue.

A venue does not need to be able to offer reception facilities as there are a number of venues that concentrate solely on ceremonies.

The regularity of weddings is entirely at the discretion of the venue.

We will provide staff to conduct and register a marriage.
