Lambeth's Communities First programme is about you and your community taking an active role in shaping the future of where you live and work.
What is Communities First?
In October 2006, the government set out plans to give people a bigger say in how their local communities are run.
The idea is to change the way local government works. Our Communities First programme will give you the chance to influence decisions and take more responsibility for your community, however you define it.
The Communities First Strategy 2007 - 2010
This is the culmination of extensive community consultation, when time was spent listening and receiving clear messages for change in experiences of working with the council.
We will commence work with all partners to shape how we can all best work together to achieve the ambition:
- For Lambeth (not just the council) to be judged as excellent by its communities and partners in improving people's lives through strong, safe and cohesive neighbourhoods, where people are proud to live, work, learn, play and prosper.
This year's People First expositions provided opportunities for residents, groups and organisations to come together in their own communities, to network and focus on issues which directly affect them.
