Finance and Resources

The Finance and Resources department leads the finance community across the council. The department defines standards of financial administration and then monitors council performance to ensure these standards are met. The department also provides a financial advice role across the council particularly in relation to major projects and long term planning.

Over the last couple of years, Lambeth’s financial performance has been turned around. We now have in place the systems to maintain sound financial stewardship and increasing investment. These systems have helped to overcome Lambeth’s historical problems with fraud and mismanagement, when services cost too much and failed to deliver. 

The work of the department was recognised by the judges of the 2008 Accountancy Age magazine awards. Lambeth Council's Executive Director of Finance and Resources, Mike Suarez, won the 'Public Sector Finance Director of the year’. In addition, our Revenues & Benefits Service won the Local Government Chronicle Finance award for Quality of Service and Information 2008.

Finance and Resources still has improvements to make, and is not resting on its laurels. The department has a robust service plan, and from this plan, priorities for the department have been set focussing on;
