Campaigns and Communications

The Campaigns and Communications team includes the Media, Marketing and Publishing teams.

The communications team works to provide useful service information to local people as well as promote the opportunities and benefits of the borough.

Following the new DCLG publicity code we no longer publish the council paper Lambeth Life. However, we still need to get practical information such as how to recycle or where to vote out to everyone in the borough. Therefore we produce  Lambeth Talk, a quarterly magazine. This currently costs us about £20k per edition for printing, design and distribution (£14,369.81 for print, £5,720.00 for distribution). We will be looking to bring in advertising to reduce the costs in the future. This equates to about 15 pence per copy (130,000 copies produced at a time). All content in the magazine is based upon promoting interest in services and telling residents about what is happening in the borough  whether it's a large-scale development project or a community event. In the future we want it to become a space for community organisations and our partners (like the NHS and police) to include their news, so it becomes a place where you can find out how all of these organisations are working on your behalf. For enquiries about Lambeth talk, please email lambethtalk@lambeth.gov.uk or phone 020 7926 9930.

We have recently produced 12 core service leaflets giving residents information on a range of services including planning and regeneration, fostering and adoption and education and learning. These leaflets are distributed in council buildings across the borough, cost us £7,317 to produce.

Every year we also produce the A-Z guide to council services. This is a handy guide to every single service in the borough. You can pick up one at the main council buildings including libraries and customer centres. In 2010-11 this cost £6,241 for designing and printing 10,000 copies.

You might also notice that we have a regular advertorial detailing council services in the Lambeth Weekender, which is published fortnightly. This advertorial is free to the council as it is part of a statutory notices contract we have in place with this publication. All councils are legally obliged to print statutory notices adverts in a local paper about road closures and building works etc. Our contract with the Weekender ensures we get the best possible price for these adverts as well as a free advertorial to us keep you up to date on council services.

Up your street is your means of finding out what the council is doing in your area.

The Up Your Street newsletters, published quarterly, cost about £15k per edition. This is made up of approximately £2,500 for design, print is £6,217.00 and distribution is about £6,000. This is about 12p per edition. There are no communications costs for the Weekender: the council only pays for statutory notices.

If you have something that you think will be of interest to Up your street readers then please email areanews@lambeth.gov.uk. We will need a title, about 100 words description, contact details and any dates that apply to your information. We won't guarantee to print the story but if we can we will.

Lambeth branding

Lambeth Council has a style guide which must always be adhered to when any work is carried out for, with or on behalf of Lambeth services. This includes use of the Lambeth logo, print media, letterheads, signage, web development and partnership working.

If you wish to use the Lambeth logo or are producing work using Lambeth branding you should contact the Design team first - they will then give you access to the online style guide and logo-download web page. You will need professional graphics software and permission from the design team before using any Lambeth logos. You can contact the team on 020 7926 2837/2761/2324, or email Kate Vogelsang at kvogelsang@lambeth.gov.uk.

For web development work, you should contact the web team on webteam@lambeth.gov.uk, or telephone 020 7926 0471.
