Data Protection and Freedom of Information
We see the introduction of the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act as a welcome opportunity to improve both the ways we inform the public and the ways we manage the information we hold.
The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to see data we hold on you (with a few exceptions) and have it corrected if it is currently incorrect.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you right of access to information produced in the course of the council's work.
The government has emphasised that open data should be freely available to the public and has set up the Local Public Data Panel to oversee the release of local public data.
