You must be on the electoral register to be able to vote.
Every year, everyone on the electoral register is asked to confirm their details and notify the council of any changes to them.
Have you registered to vote yet?
In August, all households in the borough received a voter registration form. All households who have not yet replied are now receiving reminder forms.
The reminder forms ask you to check, delete, amend or add any names to the household information printed on the form. If the printed information on the form is correct and there are no changes to be made, you can use the freephone or internet options to confirm the details.
If there are changes to be made to the printed information on the forms, please amend or change the details, sign it, date it and return the form immediately in the freepost envelope provided.
Please use one of these options immediately and you will avoid a canvasser visiting your home.
Door to door canvassing
Over eighty canvassers from Lambeth Council will be going door to door from this week helping residents to complete their electoral registration forms before the deadline of 21 November 2008.
Council officers will be reminding residents that registering not only protects their right to vote but is also in residents' financial interest.
The electoral register is also used by banks, building societies and other financial organisations that carry out credit checks. Being registered will help when you need to open a bank account, get a mortgage or apply for credit or buy a car or a mobile phone.
Why is it important to vote?
Registering your details is quick, easy and it ensures that you have a voice in any upcoming local or national elections, which is why it's so important. Being on the electoral register means you can vote in elections that take place after December 2008.
How can I register to vote?
Residents can return their forms using the freepost envelope provided, confirm details even if they have not changed using the freephone number printed on the form, or register via the internet using the reference details on the form.
Residents who have not received a form yet can call the help line on telephone 020 7926 2144.
Can anyone register to vote in Lambeth?
No - you must be a British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of another European Union state and be resident in Lambeth. For more information see the list of eligible countries.
You must be over 18 years old to vote. However, you can register if you are 16 or 17. Your name will be shown with the date of your eighteenth birthday, after which you will be able to vote in elections in the borough.
