Leader of the council
As Leader of the Council I am responsible for making sure local people get the services they require.
Lambeth is one of the most exciting place to live, work or visit. With people from all over the world living together here, we're one of the most diverse places in Europe – and we are proud of that.
In 2010 I launched a major public consultation on proposals to establish Lambeth as Britain's first cooperative council. This means people who use our services will have a bigger say in how they are run and what they do. With greater involvement of residents, the third sector, social enterprise, and mutual organisations.
Already the council is developing a range of cooperative projects – all aimed at handing power to the people - including plans to hand control over youth services to local communities so that each neighbourhood can choose the balance of services that will most help their own young people.
Please share you ideas with me on the issues which matter to you.
Best wishes
Councillor Steve Reed
