Mayor of Lambeth
The Mayor of Lambeth is elected each year at the Annual Meeting of the council. The Mayor is the first citizen of Lambeth and has several specific roles to play for the authority during their term of office, including chairing full Meetings of the Council. The current Mayor is Councillor Christopher Wellbelove.
Lambeth is perhaps unusual in that since 1994 the Mayor has been elected unanimously by fellow councillors, with each of the political parties supplying a candidate in rotation. This underlines the apolitical nature of the Mayor's role and enables them to represent all the citizens of the borough.
Councillor Christopher Wellbelove has lived in Lambeth for twelve years and has represented Clapham Town Ward since May 2006.
He says, "Since moving to the borough I have met many people who give tirelessly and selflessly to others, making a real difference to peoples lives - during my year as Mayor I hope to encourage others to make a difference too."
Deputy Mayor
Councillor Irene Kimm is the Deputy Mayor and will deputise for the Mayor when he is unavailable.
