Mayor of Lambeth

Mayor of Lambeth, Cllr Angela MeaderThe Mayor of Lambeth is elected each year at the Annual Meeting of the council. The Mayor is the first citizen of Lambeth and has several specific roles to play for the authority during their term of office, including chairing full Meetings of the Council. The current Mayor is Councillor Angela Meader.

Lambeth is perhaps unusual in that since 1994 the Mayor has been elected unanimously by fellow councillors, with each of the political parties supplying a candidate in rotation. This underlines the apolitical nature of the Mayor's role and enables them to represent all the citizens of the borough.

Councillor Angela Meader has lived in Clapham for thirty years and has represented Clapham Common Ward since May 2002. She says, "I have a firm commitment to empower people from every background by helping people who can to help themselves, and to improve the quality of life of Lambeth's many vulnerable residents."
