Improving Lambeth
This section sets out the how we are approaching the task of radically improving the quality of life for people in Lambeth and the services they receive from the council.
Lambeth's vision
Our vision is to ensure that by 2020 “Lambeth is a diverse, dynamic and enterprising borough at the heart of central London”
Sustainable Community Strategy (2008 – 2020)
The Sustainable Community Strategy is the borough’s 12 year long term strategy, which sets out how we will improve the quality of life for people who live, work and visit Lambeth. The strategy is delivered by Lambeth First (the borough’s local strategic partnership) and the council is a key member of this partnership.
Local Area Agreement (2008-11)
Local Area Agreements (LAAs) are improvement plans negotiated between central government and local areas (such as Lambeth). Lambeth’s LAA (2008 – 11) is our first three-year action plan for the Sustainable Community Strategy. It sets out what the council and the other partner organisations of Lambeth First (Police, PCT, voluntary sector and private sector) will focus on in the next three years to begin delivering our Sustainable Community Strategy.
The Lambeth Annual Report for 2006/07 aims to give clear, honest and understandable information to our residents, stakeholders and partners about the activities and performance of the council.
Lambeth is committed to using best value as a tool for improving all our services focusing particularly on the key areas.
Each year the Audit Commission produces a national league table of council performance through the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA), measuring each council's ability to plan, manage and deliver core services and how well they offer value for money.
The Corporate Plan sets out the council’s plans for the next three years. It responds to the concerns of residents, the political priorities of our Labour administration and shows how the council is helping to deliver its part of the LAA and the Sustainable Community Strategy. In addition, it sets out the improvements we will make to how the council, as an organisation, is run.
Early in 2007 Lambeth launched its new Sustainability Charter which replaced the Environmental Charter (2001).
In order to manage performance to deliver improvement we need to know how we are doing. We measure our performance against nationally as well as locally determined indicators.
