Empowering our young people

G2K LogoThe looked after children programme at Lambeth gives children the best possible opportunities in life and prepares them for their future outside of care. A new website has been designed to help improve communication between looked after children and the council.

With guidance from Lambeth's Corporate Parenting Team looked after young people, aged between 5 and 21 helped to design the ‘Get2Know’ site.

Acknowledged for its innovation and involvement of children and young people, the site took top honours in the ‘Best Interactive Media’ category at the Children and Young People’s Now Positive Images Awards.

When a young person leaves care, Lambeth continues to support them with education, employment, housing and health advice. The site provides a great range of advice on these and other issues, empowering looked after children to make the most of their future.

A members only section of the site allows users to take part in online discussions and consultations. The views posted on the forum are being used to help shape policies and strategies for children and young people in Lambeth's care.
