The Co-operative Council: The Future of Council Housing
Lambeth's Housing Commission report is available below.
The Commissioners focused on ensuring greater investment in council housing and improving the housing service.
Recommendations include:
- co-producing with tenants an enhanced Decent Homes standard for Lambeth with a commitment to invest as much money into council owned homes as quickly as possible
- developing a business case to develop a social enterprise project that would train unemployed young people and ex-offenders to work on Lambeth properties and to tackle unemployment
- developing co-operative models of management and ownership which will be offered to estates.
On considering the report Cabinet have also agreed that Lambeth Living will continue to deliver housing management services for the council. Lambeth Living will be asked to improve customer service and performance in rent collection as well as reducing empty properties.
