Extended Services Commission

The purpose of this commission was to investigate the scope, contribution and future of extended services in the borough.

'Extended services' is how government refer to their target that schools provide, or can signpost, a range of services - such as childcare, parenting support and after-school activities - and provide wider community access to facilities.

The commission identified some of the issues and barriers to the implementation of sustainable extended services in the borough and made recommendations to Cabinet as to how they could be overcome.

Councillor Suzanne Poole was Chair of the commission with Councillors Giess and McKenna. The commission began its work in January 2008 and reported to Cabinet in April 2009.

The Cabinet response to the report was produced and approved in June 2009.

The Children and Young People's Service Scrutiny Sub-Committee will monitor the implementation of the commission's recommendations throughout 2009-10.
