Our scrutiny committees

We have six scrutiny committees: the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, which oversees and co-ordinates the work of the sub-committees and the scrutiny function in general; and five cross-cutting sub-committees, which cover issues arising from all our services.

The committees' membership reflects the political balance of the council.

A summary of the remit of each committee is provided below along with a link to their latest work programmes. Previous agendas, reports and minutes can be accessed by clicking on the name of each committee

Joint Health Scrutiny Committees

Local authority health scrutiny committees are required, under a direction from the Secretary of State to establish a Joint Health Scrutiny Committee to consider and respond to proposals for developments or variations to health services that affect more than one local authority area, and which are considered 'substantial' by the health scrutiny committees for those areas affected by the proposals.

Information on the joint health scrutiny committees undertaken in 2005 and 2009.
