Vassall Ward

A202 Camberwell New Road, as far as Flodden Road/Denmark Road, and the railway line into Loughborough Junction, bound Vassall to the north. The ward reaches as far south as Lilford Road/Loughborough Road, and across Brixton Road to Robsart Street.

The eastern boundary of Vassall is the A3 Clapham Road between Stockwell Park Road and South Island Place. Vassall includes the section of A23 Brixton Road between South Island Place and Loughborough Road.

  • The population of Vassall ward rose from 12,429 in 1991 to 13,172, an increase of 6.0 per cent. This is 4.9 per cent of the borough population. Vassall has an area of 112.8 hectares (4.1 per cent of the borough). For the local elections in 2002, there were 9,448 electors.
  • Vassall had a large percentage decrease in Chinese/Other Ethnic Group people between the 1991 and 2001 Census', a reduction of 2.4 per cent compared to the borough figure of 0 per cent.
  • Vassall also had a large percentage reduction in White people, -10.3 per cent compared to the borough reduction of 7.3 per cent.
  • Vassall has one of the highest numbers of people with long term limiting illness, and had the lowest decrease in people aged 65 and above with long term limiting illness, and a small decrease in the number of people aged 0 to 15.
